Air to Water Heat Pump How does It Work?
What is an air-to-water heat pump:
An air-to-water heat pump transfers heat from outside air to water,
thereby heating your radiator or floor heating. It can also heat water stored
in a thermos for use in hot water taps, showers and bathtubs.
Benefits of air-to-water heat pumps:
1. Can reduce your fuel costs
2. Will reduce your carbon emissions
3. Can heat your home and hot water
How does an air-to-water heat pump work?
A complete and modern heat pump system can effectively save energy and
reduce carbon dioxide emissions. Due to the integrated water heater, immersion heater,
circulating pump and indoor unit climate system, heating is safe and
economical. The heat is obtained from the outdoor unit through the outdoor
unit, and the refrigerant circulates in the closed piping system to transfer
the heat from the heat source to the indoor unit. The standard of heat transfer
can be simplified as follows:
1. An outdoor unit takes heat from the surrounding air and transfers it
to a coolant
2. The compressor increases the temperature of the refrigerant
3. The coolant transfers heat to the hot water storage tank via a heat
exchanger
4. Circulate hot water to the radiator and faucet
5. The cold water is transported back to the tank
6. Transfer the coolant from the tank to the outdoor unit
Use air-to-water heat pumps at home
An air-to-water heat pump can be used to heat your house and water. Here
are some things to consider.
1). Use air-to-water heat pump for heating
The heat pump works best when the difference between the internal and
external temperature is small. Just like your refrigerator must work harder in
hot weather.
This makes them very suitable for floor heating systems. Floors cover a
much larger area than radiators, so they do not need to be heated to provide
the same amount of heat.
The output of air-to-water heat pumps is also lower than that of gas or
oil-fired boilers. This means that they cannot provide heat quickly. Instead,
they are best used to slowly heat up your house over a longer period of time.
2). Air to water heat pump and radiator
If you have a radiator in your home and you are switching from a gas
heating system to an air source heat pump, you may need to buy some larger
radiators to keep your house warm.
3). Use air-to-water heat pump for hot water
A heat pump can also be an important source of hot water-but the water
will be colder than the water in the boiler. In practice, this means that if
you are taking a bath, you will need more hot water and less from the cold tap.
Therefore, you may also need a larger hot water tank to meet your needs.
