Ground source heat pumps (GSHP) use pipes buried in the garden to
extract heat from the ground. This heat can then be used to heat radiators,
underfloor or heating systems, and hot water in your home.
For every unit of electricity the heat pump uses, it captures and
transfers three to four units of heat. In practice, this means that a
well-installed ground source heat pump can reach an efficiency of 300-400% in
terms of power usage.
The carbon dioxide emissions of the heat pump will be 70% lower than that
of the gas boiler heating system. If electricity is provided by renewable
energy, carbon emissions can be reduced to zero.
