Heat Pump Hot Water Heaters
Heat pump hot water heaters use refrigeration cycles to extract heat
from the surrounding air. Then they use a heat exchanger to heat the water in
the insulated water storage tank.
Heat pump water heaters run on electricity, but the efficiency is about
three times that of traditional electric water heaters.
When used in the right environment, heat pumps can save energy, save
money and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
How does Heat Pump Hot Water Heaters work:
1. The liquid refrigerant passes through the evaporator, where it
absorbs heat from the air and becomes a gas.
2. The gas refrigerant is compressed in the electric compressor.
Compressed gas will cause its temperature to rise, making it hotter than the
water in the tank.
3. The hot air flows into the condenser, where it transfers the heat to
the water and turns it back into a liquid.
4. The liquid refrigerant then flows into the expansion valve, where its
pressure drops, allowing it to cool down and enter the evaporator to repeat the
cycle.
