    Description

    Hotels and resorts have a high energy bill, which presents a great opportunity for energy-efficient systems. Energy is used for heating, cooling, ventilation, hot water for showers or dishes, and sometimes for swimming pools or laundry facilities. Significant energy savings can be achieved by replacing old, inefficient technology with heat pump systems.     Case Study: Hotel

    A 2.480 m² hotel with 44 rooms, 4 suites, a casino and restaurant. The hotel uses a 300 kW fossil fuel district heating system, which costs 33.200 euros per year to run, making heating costs high.

     

    A heat pump system was installed to replace the 300kW district heating system. The system consists of 3x23kW air/water heat pumps with a total output of 69kW. A domestic hot water (DHW) system was also installed, using a 15 kW air/water heat pump to heat the water to 65°C. In addition, a 100kW condensing gas boiler was added as a backup. The new system uses electricity for the heat pump, with gas only as a backup.

     

    As a result, the total operating costs per year are reduced to EUR 21.800, a saving of EUR 11.400 per year. The project has a payback period of 4.8 years and a lifetime savings of EUR 285,000.
